Six Disciplines of Lent

During Lent, we often think of the three most observed disciplines of Lent: Fasting, Prayer, and Almsgiving.

There are however, other disciplines to Lent. This Lent, let us look at six disciplines and ways we can practice these disciplines.

1. Self-examination and Repentance

2. Prayer

3. Fasting

4. Self-denial

5. Reading and Meditating in God's Word.

6. Almsgiving

Examples of what you can do to practice these six disciplines of Lent are found below.

what can we do?

  • Reflect and ask for forgiveness. Consider writing down the names of people you need to apologize to or a letter to someone you owe an apology to. Pray over the list or letter, asking God for His forgiveness. After praying over your list or letter rip it up.

    Self Examination & Repentance

  • Pray

If prayer isn't part of your daily routine, make a commitment to praying each day of Lent.

We will also be offering a Prayer Vigil on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Additional information about the Prayer Vigil coming soon.

  • Fast

Donate food to a local pantry. We will also be collecting food throughout Lent to be donated to a food pantry in Eau Claire. Look for boxes throughout the church to drop off non-perishable food items.

  • Self-Denial

Give up something during the 40 days of Lent.

  • Reading & Meditation on god's word

Take time each day of Lent to read God's Word. Read Our Daily Bread, Christ in Your Home, or another devotional each day of Lent.

Once on the page you can select whether to read the devotion directly online, print a copy and read later, or listen via audio podcast.

  • Almsgiving

Pick up your Lenten offering box on your way in to worship. Place your spare change in the box throughout Lent. We will collect the boxes after Easter and donate the Lenten offerings to the St. Francis Food Pantry. The St. Francis Food Pantry is located in our new church neighborhood on Truax Blvd.
